St. Baldrick's foundation

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. To date, the Foundation has granted more than $200 million to some of the most brilliant childhood cancer research experts in the world and to innovative explorers who bring with them the promise of a future free from childhood cancers. Through head shaving events and partnerships, they are able to provide the funds necessary for top-notch research across the United States and the world.

Love Your Melon will be teaming up with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to fund Ewing's sarcoma research led by Dr. David Lombard at the University of Michigan. Ewing's sarcoma is a cancer that arises in bone and soft tissue of children and young adults, which is fatal if untreated. While often successful, therapies for Ewing's sarcoma have severe long-term side effects for survivors. Dr. Lombard's research will test a new means of treating Ewing sarcoma, by targeting the mitochondrion, the metabolic hub of the cell. Results suggest that this new approach may provide a way to efficiently kill Ewing's sarcoma cells, with little impact on normal cells and organs.

Through this partnership, we hope to make a significant impact in the lives of children battling Ewing's sarcoma within the United States. Your support of Love Your Melon makes our nonprofit partnerships possible. Thank you for joining us in the fight against pediatric cancer.
